Emilio Garcia Flores

Matt Walker
Emilio completed his HBSc in Neuroscience at the University of Toronto, where his research journey began by studying epigenetic markers of neurogenesis in zebrafish. Fascinated by neural stem cells and their potential in so many contexts, he continued his journey in translational medicine research and received his MASc in Biomedical Engineering, also at the University of Toronto, during which time he researched metformin, a common diabetic medication, and its beneficial effects on neural stem cells in spinal cord-injured mice. He has also contributed to other projects, including cortical stimulation post-stroke, AAV-mediated astrocyte reprogramming, promoting remyelination in a model of multiple-sclerosis, and investigating the effects of radiation on the brain. Moving along on his research journey, he is now excited to apply his skills (and learn a few more) here, focusing on metacognition and trigeminal neuralgia.
Outside of research, Emilio loves learning languages (Russian and Portuguese in progress…) and playing classical guitar tunes at home to two furry Maine Coons.
